We are a family firm of Chartered Accountants based in Northallerton, on the High Street.
Established by Colin and Julie in September 2013.
Colin (Director and Principal) has over 30 years' experience in the profession and Julie (Managing Director) has over 30 years' experience in the public sector covering schools' finance and business management. Their eldest son Sam is also a Director having trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with the firm.
They are ably assisted by the rest of the CHA team, Barbara (Tax Manager), Leanne, Chris, Neil, Pete, Alison, Matthew, Lois, Anthony, Toby, Caroline, Luke, Jack and Matthew K.
We support multiple business sectors, such as manufacturing, agriculture and retail. We provide assistance to clients with tax planning, annual accounts and tax return preparation, management accounts, bookkeeping, VAT returns, cashflows, payroll services and much more.

It’s a family thing…
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Hutson as a Director of our family firm.
Sam, 35, has spoken of his pride in becoming a director at Colin Hutson Accounting Limited, based on Northallerton High Street.
Sam joined the business as a trainee in October 2013, going on to qualify as an Associate Chartered Accountant, through the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), five years ago and then obtained his practicing certificate.
His other qualifications include:
- A degree in Accounting, Business Finance and Management from the University of York,
- An MSc master’s degree in management from the University of Teesside,
- A Diploma in Finance, Accounting and Business from Newcastle University Business School
- And a diploma in Leadership in Practice through the ICAEW.
Sam said: “I’m enormously proud to become a director in a business built on strong family values that I know so well.
“My parents had a vision to operate from the High Street, while being embedded in the local community, and that’s an ethos I believe in wholeheartedly.”
Sam went to Broomfield Primary School, in Northallerton, before moving to Hurworth House School, then Polam Hall Sixth Form.
He is a former chair of Northallerton Round Table and has served as treasurer of the Northallerton branch of the Hope and Homes for Children charity. Nationally, Sam sits on the ICAEW Council and has served as chair and vice chair of the international ICAEW Student Council.
Colin said: “The business has grown year-on year, and we now employ 18 staff. It’s a sign of our progress that we can make Sam a director, with total confidence that he has the experience and ability to help take the company forward.”
Julie added: “By developing a great team, with a mix of experience and younger people, we’re well-equipped to help our clients through ever-growing challenges. As a training office for the ICAEW, we take young people direct from college or university and make a big commitment to growing talent through mentoring and coaching.”
While our core business is in North Yorkshire and South Durham, it also has clients in other parts of the UK and in Europe.
“Our commitment is to the community, providing more opportunities for young people, and growing our client-base, with Sam playing an increasingly important role,” said Colin.
